WHY DO YOU RACE? WHAT STARTED YOUR LOVE FOR ENDURANCE SPORTS?
The first race I had ever signed up for was the Get Lucky 7K and I was hooked after that. I love the excitement of waiting with the other runners for the race to start and challenging myself to do better than the race before. It also helps me prioritize my workouts and I can still eat all the candy I want!
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO TRAIN AT KINGFIELD ENDURANCE?
I was first introduced to Kingfield when a friend and I started working out with a trainer. I'd never been really comfortable incorporating weight lifting into my workouts so it was an awesome experience to have an expert not only help me learn the proper techniques, but also challenge me to push myself at the same time! I've always wanted to be stronger and having someone that could help drive that accountability and tell me to try more was incredibly motivating. And when I moved into the endurance class, I was hooked.
WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK TO KINGFIELD ENDURANCE?
There are so many things that keep me coming back to the gym. I love the sense of community - everyone is so nice and friendly which is great because it can always be intimidating to try something new and there's also the mentality that we're all in this together. I also love that every time I go, the workout is different from the last and it keeps me from getting bored and losing interest. I think the other thing that drives my commitment to Kingfield is the fact that it challenges me to push myself.
HOW HAS THE CROSSFIT TRAINING IMPACTED YOUR ENDURANCE SPORTS PERFORMANCE?
I just feel that my overall health has improved. The routines of warming up before each workout and stretching afterwards have started to become part of my own workouts outside of the gym. I can feel a difference in my posture when I run and I've learned how to work through the fatigue that I can feel during some of my runs.
DO YOU HAVE A MOTTO? In high school, my volleyball coach would always remind my team that "Quitters never win, winners never quit" and it's stuck with me to this day.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT OR MOVEMENT? If I had to pick, I'd probably go with front or back squats. Definitely not wall balls, but I'm learning to appreciate those more.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD? I love anything that has to do with breakfast - waffles, pancakes, bacon, eggs.
WHAT IS YOUR POWER SONG? America's Sweetheart by Elle King. Anytime that song comes on I know I can push just a little bit harder for a few more minutes.
