WHY DO YOU RACE? WHAT STARTED YOUR LOVE FOR ENDURANCE SPORTS?
I love the going fast on two wheels. My email address "biketango" came to me on a Mt Bike ride through a fast technical trails where I felt like I was "dancing" through the trees. And of course:
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO TRAIN AT KINGFIELD ENDURANCE?
To become a better rounded athlete. I've been a multi-sport athlete in high school and college but since then have gradually narrowed in on just one thing. And sitting down and spinning pedals on a crank arm can lead to some very narrowly focused fitness.
WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK TO KINGFIELD ENDURANCE?
Community, competition, feeling better all around. Ultimately I have to if I want to keep up with racing. When did everyone get so young in my race category?
HOW HAS THE CROSSFIT TRAINING IMPACTED YOUR ENDURANCE SPORTS PERFORMANCE?
There is a definite difference on short punchy climbs with my Mt. Bike. My power is up and my upper body can deal with the pounding a rough trail can dish out.
DO YOU HAVE A MOTTO?
"This is temporary..."
I picture dropping my nemesis on a hill climb.
"Relax, breathe, you got this" (repeat)
"The quicker you finish the quicker the pain will stop!"
Count to 10 and start over. Just keep moving and counting.
On long endurance races I try to do math in my head like my average pace, how long to finish, etc. to distract myself from the searing pain in my legs.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT OR MOVEMENT?
I really liked pushing the sled--feels like a total power movement and I can focus all my aggression into it.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD?
A thick grass fed beef patty made up with dried onions, paprika, pepper, salt and crushed cashews, done on super hot grill. With bacon and Avocado of course.
