WHY DO YOU RACE? WHAT STARTED YOUR LOVE FOR ENDURANCE SPORTS?

I played soccer in college and after graduating I did not want to give up being an athlete completely. I have always loved the training process and competing with myself—and others. Through training and racing I am constantly gaining a new level of self-awareness—of my mind and body—that I never knew was there.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO TRAIN AT KINGFIELD ENDURANCE?

After a first year of tri-training by trial and error, I wanted to get stronger and faster by training smarter. Shortly after moving to Minneapolis, I found Kingfield; Lea, Anna, and the Kingfield coaches were so personable and took an individualized, holistic approach to training. It is this focus that has allowed me to work through a lingering injury and get physically and mentally stronger.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK TO KINGFIELD ENDURANCE?

Specifically, I love the feeling when the workout is in front of you, staring you in the face— that moment when you realize you are about to do something really hard and you've got to mentally commitment. That moment/challenge keeps me coming back!

Overall, I love Kingfield because of the wonderful humans, the soreness, and the energizing, caring spirit that the Kingfield community offers. I don't wake up at 5 AM for no reason and any one of these reasons is reason enough!

HOW HAS THE CROSSFIT TRAINING IMPACTED YOUR ENDURANCE SPORTS PERFORMANCE? 

Kingfield CrossFit has helped me realize the glory, power, and importance of my glutes! The strength training has definitely improved my power on the bike. More generally, learning how to engage my glutes and be more aware of my posterior chain during strength sessions has helped me be more mindful of how to use those muscles swimming, biking, and running to be more efficient.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT OR MOVEMENT? 

DEADLIFTS—of the regular or sumo variety. I also get really pumped up about the power snatch because the movement is so fluid and it feels awesome to throw weight above your head.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD? A rack of BBQ ribs. And baked goods of the muffin, scone, or bun/bar variety are all delicious.
