WHY DO YOU RACE? WHAT STARTED YOUR LOVE FOR ENDURANCE SPORTS?

My love for endurance sports probably started this year. With my brother training for Leadville, I realized the perseverence and detication endurance sports take. My boyfriend found a few big mountain bike races he really wanted to travel to, and I decided to jump in, too! I've been doing smaller endurance races every few months, leading up to some pretty incredible opportunities this summer. Looking forward to growing and learning from each one!

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO TRAIN AT KINGFIELD ENDURANCE?

I noticed Coach Anna's strength and love of the sport last summer during cycling races. Later that year I heard she was starting a Women's cycling team, and also utilized strength training in her workout routine. I had never considered that before! I jumped in and although I was nervous, the coaches kept it fun for me as I learned.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK TO KINGFIELD ENDURANCE?

Once I completed my introduction classes for the endurance program, I was hooked and saw results quickly. The coaches are amazing in their positive attitude, ability to motivate us, and their knowledge to personalize each workout to the athlete.

HOW HAS THE CROSSFIT TRAINING IMPACTED YOUR ENDURANCE SPORTS PERFORMANCE?

I have found improvements in my sprinting, power on hills, and overall ability to last through the elements of a hard race. My recovery is much quicker. Last summer at this time I remember my legs aching most days. Now, I am able to ride the next day after a hard effort.

DO YOU HAVE A MOTTO? SOMETHING YOU TELL YOURSELF WHEN YOU'RE FIGHTING THROUGH A TOUGH WORKOUT?

Some of my most challenging moments are leading up to the day of a race. I try to visualize my races but also remember the saying “What if I fall? Oh but my darling, what if you fly?” I usually am able to fly, and if not then at least I was smiling!

If I'm in the middle of a race, sometimes I have to tell myself "concentrate, concentrate". It reminds me to lift my head up to look through the trees and the next corner, and not to let my mind wander or give up.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT OR MOVEMENT?

My favorite workouts at the endurance gym are the WOD with any combination of push ups, box jumps, kettle bell swings, and jump ropes. Getting my heart rate up, using every muscle in my body, and pushing through the fatigue.

My favorite workouts on the bike are a long steady mountain bike ride or race. Sometimes I think it’s just because I get to eat lots of delicious food… but really it's because I can settle in and enjoy the ride. Mentally I must stay in the moment, pushing myself up each climb and focusing to drop my heart rate back down. I have to listen to the feedback from my body to know if I'm pushing too hard or if I can pick it up a little.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE FOOD?

My favorite food is PIZZA! But if we are talking Kingfield Nutrition, it's these delicious potato and chicken sausage patties I just discovered. My stomach loves them in the middle of an endurance ride.

WHAT'S YOUR POWER SONG?

My power song is “Sorry” and “What do you mean” by Justin Beiber. Coach Lea and Coach Anna play it for me when they see me getting tired during a hard workout!
