WHY DO YOU RACE? WHAT STARTED YOUR LOVE FOR ENDURANCE SPORTS?

Racing my bike is still fairly new to me, but I have always enjoyed going fast. After my first criterium last year I was hooked to the adrenaline rush of the race, trying to figure out how to mentally stay in the game when my body feels like giving up, and the extreme sensation of satisfaction when the race finishes. My husband started me on cycling 7 years ago. It began with forcing myself to commute a little more often to work, then incorporated longer weekend rides, then even longer weekend rides. Before I knew it, I felt comfortable in spandex and bought my first carbon bike.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO TRAIN AT KINGFIELD ENDURANCE?

They have an all women's racing team!! How awesome is that?! I think it's not only important to support organizations who support women in sports, but also to support organizations who do it so well.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK TO KINGFIELD ENDURANCE?

I have never joined a gym before, had any type of trainer, nor had nutrition support for heightened performance. Let's just say I was beyond nervous for my first couple CompuTrainer and Strength training sessions. The coaches made me feel incredibly comfortable, I have never felt like I have asked a stupid question about technique (i.e. the coaches are not condescending), and they have pushed me to challenge my physical and mental capacities for strenuous activity. The members of Kingfield have also impacted my choice to keep coming back every week. Whether it's needing a little encouragement on a max rep or just getting help waking up at 5:30 in the morning, I've really appreciated their support for what I do, and can only hope I provide the same for them.

HOW HAS THE CROSSFIT TRAINING IMPACTED YOUR ENDURANCE SPORTS PERFORMANCE?

I am most definitely in the best shape of my life; no questions asked. The strength I've gained during CrossFit has definitely made it easier for me to use more muscle groups when I'm riding and has helped with some of my technique goals this year: both climbing and sprinting. I know I'm riding WAY faster than I was last year (for longer distances too!), and I know the first crit race of this year was WAY easier than it was last year. I am really looking forward to training again this winter to see how much stronger I can be for next year's race season.

DO YOU HAVE A MOTTO?

I try positive self talk by reminding myself even if I don't think I can keep going, it's just in my head. Just make it happen for 100 more feet. The other thing I try is counting (Thanks Anna!). You can do anything for 5 seconds or 5 reps.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT OR MOVEMENT?

I really like Power Clean and Jerks! I may not have the world's best form, but I feel so empowered to lift a barbell over my head like that! They also gas me out.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE FOOD? Right now, THIS is by far my favorite recipe. I want to eat it everyday! There is nothing like homemade tzatziki sauce. It's easy, so cook it to impress your friends.

WHAT'S YOUR POWER SONG?  Over the winter, Coldplay's "Adventure of a Lifetime" seemed to play at every workout which was great! When I'm riding on my own though, I seem to always go back to Run the Jewels song "Run the Jewels."
