WHY DO YOU RACE? WHAT STARTED YOUR LOVE FOR ENDURANCE SPORTS?

I am an endurance athlete because it feels familiar because I need something to work towards. I am an endurance athlete because I feel the most alive when I am focused on the moment. I am blessed to be able to run, hike, climb, bike, swim etc. One day in the future I may not be able to do those things, but that is not today.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO TRAIN AT KINGFIELD ENDURANCE?  

I recently moved from Portland, OR to Minneapolis. It was very easy for me to find long beautiful trail runs and mountains to climb within very close proximity of the city in Portland. As well, I had a strong community of mountaineering, climbing, running friends who I leaned on for those adventures. When I moved to Minneapolis, I lost my community and needed a place to feel challenged and continue to work towards my short and long-term goals. KC has been that for me in spades, and I am ecstatic to have found some new passions (cycling) to motivate and inspire me.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK TO KINGFIELD ENDURANCE? 

I am an endurance athlete in order to continually appreciate the blessings I have, being able-bodied and minded enough to enjoy the act of moving. I train at Kingfield in order to embrace and prepare for the challenges of life that can seem overwhelming.

Kingfield has made a welcome home in it's community for me and introduced me to new modes of fitness in order to support my efforts. They check in on my races, health and future goals and I feel like the staff has a vested interest in my success.

HOW HAS THE CROSSFIT TRAINING IMPACTED YOUR ENDURANCE SPORTS PERFORMANCES? 

CrossFit Endurance training has supported my endurance goals, rounded out my weaknesses and refined my strengths. It is a solid addition to my cardio regimen and helps to add a layer of confidence in my own abilities. The coaches at KC have helped to pinpoint weaknesses and motivated me to challenge my abilities as an individual.

DO YOU HAVE A MOTTO? 

Your life is your life don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission. Be on the watch. There are ways out. There is a light somewhere. It may not be much light but it beats the darkness.Be on the watch. The gods will offer you chances. Know them. Take them. You can’t beat death but you can beat death in life, sometimes. And the more often you learn to do it, the more light there will be. Your life is your life. Know it while you have it. You are marvelous the gods wait to delight in you.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT OR MOVEMENT?  

In the gym, I hate the rowing machine, so my favorite workout/movement is the rowing machine. Outside the gym, a long trail run with my best friend, my dog Windy.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD?  

I always tell my wife and she rolls her eyes, "there are two ages in my life, pre-almond butter and post almond butter!"
